Hey guys, I’m Julie Jennifer (JJ) Cavelle. I work full time at a marketing company in Dallas, Texas, and I recently decided to build this website as a bit of an outside work project, and to share a lot of information.
I’m mid 20′s and have had acne in two different stages of my life. Once about 10 years ago, I had it for about 3 years in my early teens, and again for about 1 year only a few years ago.
In both cases I eventually got everything under control, but each time through different means.

As you no doubt aware, (I assume, or you wouldn’t have found this site. ;.) acne can be a pretty nasty problem. You can end up with red patches, growths, whiteheads and pimples, or even blackheads.
There are other forms of acne too, but I’m sure you get the picture.
Basically, in most cases, acne occurs when the pores of your skin become clogged.
The pores open up to follicles of hair as well as oil glands.
At different ages, and through different hormonal conditions, the oil glands produce too much oil, and the pores get blocked. When they become blocked, all sorts of NASTINESS can happen. Bacteria can build, dirt can get trapped, and the skin can become inflamed.
Whiteheads and blackheads can form, and the skin can form a comedone, more commonly known as a plug
When or if the plug breaks, you can end up with even more swelling and bumps. YUCK!
If the inflammation ever gets too deep into the skin, the pimples can grow even larger and turn into cysts. You definitely want to take care of it before it gets to this stage!
Most acne sufferers are in their teens (just when you want it, huh!) but it can linger or come back at any time. 75% of all teenagers develop some sort of acne, mainly due to hormonal changes, which causes more oil in the skin.
Acne can be genetic and run in families, but is usually caused by hormonal changes, oily cosmetic products blocking your pores, certain drugs, as well as sweat and humidity.
Anyway, you probably get the picture. It can be pretty nasty.
